About Dedicated Bookkeeping
How long has Dedicated Bookkeeping been operating, and can I trust you with my finances?
Dedicated Bookkeeping has been providing bookkeeping and advisory support to Australian businesses for over sixteen years. We’re a small, highly experienced team — not a call centre — led by founder Ed Hutton, so you deal directly with people who actually know your business.
Are you a registered BAS agent?
Yes. We’re registered with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) as a BAS Agent, so all lodgements and advisory work meet the required regulatory standards.
What accounting software do you work with?
We’re certified in Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks, and we handle cloud system setup and migration across all three — so we can work with whatever platform suits your business, or help you move to one that does.
What size and type of business do you typically work with?
We work with growing Australian businesses — generally 2 to 50 employees with annual turnover between $500K and $10M — particularly in trades and construction, allied health, professional services, hospitality and retail, transport and logistics, real estate, and law firms.
Do you only work with local businesses, or can you help if I’m not near Hope Island?
We deliver our services remotely, nationwide, so location isn’t a barrier — you get the same direct, hands-on service wherever you’re based in Australia.
How do you keep my financial information secure?
We handle your data to the standards required under our Tax Practitioners Board registration as a BAS Agent, so your financial information is managed to the same security and privacy standards that apply to all registered agents.
Do you receive any commission or referral fee from the software providers you recommend?
No. We don’t receive commissions or referral fees from the software providers we work with — our recommendations are based purely on what’s the best fit for your business.
Choosing & Working With a Bookkeeper
What’s the difference between bookkeeping and accounting, and which do I need?
Bookkeeping is the day-to-day recording of your transactions, reconciliations and compliance lodgements; accounting typically looks at the bigger picture — tax planning and strategic advice. Most growing businesses need both. We focus on keeping your books accurate and your reporting current, so your accountant has clean, ready data to work with.
Do you work directly alongside my existing accountant?
Yes. We take the time to understand both your needs and how your accountant likes to work, so your books are kept accurate and current in a way that suits whoever needs to view them — you or your accountant.
What services do you actually provide, beyond basic data entry?
Beyond core bookkeeping — BAS/IAS lodgement, payroll processing, accounts receivable/payable, and reconciliations — we offer cash flow forecasting and budgeting, Virtual CFO-style reporting and dashboards, compliance advisory, cloud systems setup and migration, and financial process improvement, so you get a clearer picture of your numbers, not just compliance.
I’m behind on my bookkeeping, or my books are a mess — can you help?
Yes. Bookkeeping backlogs and fix-ups are one of our core services — we take a non-judgmental, practical approach to getting disorganised books caught up and back on track.
How much do your services cost?
Pricing is agreed upfront, whichever way suits you — a fixed fee or an hourly rate — scoped after an initial, no-obligation discovery call, so you know the cost before you commit to anything.
Who owns the software subscription — me or you?
This is arranged to suit each client individually — some prefer to hold their own Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks subscription, others prefer we manage it for them. We’ll work out what suits you best as part of onboarding.
Do you handle trust accounting for real estate agencies or law firms?
Yes. We provide trust account reconciliation and monthly reporting for real estate agencies and law firms, keeping this compliance-sensitive area properly in order.
What does “Virtual CFO” reporting actually mean, and do I need it?
It means real-time dashboards, cash flow forecasting and forward-looking advisory — going beyond compliance to help you actually understand your financial position and make decisions, rather than just receiving a set of historical numbers after the fact.
How often will I hear from you, and what does reporting look like?
We work as an ongoing partner rather than a once-a-quarter compliance provider. Once your systems are properly set up, you receive regular reporting so you always know where your business stands financially.
How quickly do you respond to queries?
We aim to respond to queries the same day.
Can I speak to references from existing clients?
Yes — references from existing clients can be arranged on request, just ask us during your discovery call.
Our Qualifications & How to Work With Us
What qualifies you to do this work?
Between being a registered BAS Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board, holding certifications in Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks, and over sixteen years delivering bookkeeping and advisory support to Australian businesses, we bring both the compliance credentials and the practical, hands-on experience to handle your books properly.
Are you a member of a professional bookkeeping body, such as the ICB or ABA?
We’re not currently affiliated with a professional bookkeeping body. Our credentials come from our Tax Practitioners Board registration as a BAS Agent, our software certifications, and our track record — over sixteen years working with Australian businesses.
How do you actually work with a new client — what happens first?
It starts with a discovery call, where we get to know your business and scope out what you actually need — no obligation. From there we follow a five-step approach: we listen to understand how your business operates, build a plan tailored to you, configure your cloud accounting systems properly, then move into an ongoing partnership with regular reporting and reliable compliance support.
What do you need from me to get started?
The best starting point is a discovery call — you can book one through our contact page and let us know a bit about your business and which services you’re after (cash flow forecasting, BAS strategy, Virtual CFO reporting, cloud systems setup, trust accounting, catching up a backlog, or a general enquiry). We’ll take it from there.
